It is University policy that all full-time students maintain adequate health insurance coverage to provide protection against unexpected accidents and illnesses. For the 2016-17 academic year, the University offers the Johns Hopkins University Student Health Benefit plan, which all students enrolled in full-time programs and currently without health insurance coverage should enroll in. (Note: Full-time students with pre-existing health insurance coverage can choose to waive enrollment in the University plan.) International Students with an F-1 or J-1 Visa status are required to purchase the University plan and will be automatically enrolled.
The University plan is administered by the Consolidated Health Plans, Inc. (CHP), who has contracted with Cigna's network of providers. The total cost for the student annual plan is $1,800. The annual coverage period is August 15, 2016–August 14, 2017 and the per term coverage dates are as follows: fall semester, August 15, 2016–February 14, 2017; spring semester, February 15, 2017–August 14, 2017. Fall enrollment begins July 7 and ends September 15, 2016. Students can enroll in the plan via SIS Self-Service at https://sis.jhu.edu/sswf/ (look for the “Personal Info” tab and then select “Health Insurance”). Coverage will automatically renew for the spring once a student enrolls for the spring semester. The student health insurance fee will be billed directly to the student's account (at $900 per semester for fall and spring) and is subject to the payment guidelines of the Student Accounts office. Coverage for eligible dependents is available at an additional cost.

All currently enrolled part-time degree-seeking and certificate students are also eligible to enroll in the Johns Hopkins University Student Health Benefit Plan administered by the Consolidated Health Plans, Inc. (CHP). Information about enrollment dates and costs are listed above.
